Description:
At the Gibson facilities in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the very first Patent Applied For humbuckers were wound using imprecise machinery, resulting in early PAFs that were not at all consistent in terms of output levels and tone. The Burstbucker™ pickup line represents Gibson's commitment to recreating the magic of the original Patent Applied For humbuckers.
First introduced in the early 1990s, Gibson's Burstbucker (Type 1, 2, and 3) has successfully captured the subtle tonal variations of the true classic humbucker sound, featuring traditional unbalanced windings and Alnico 2 magnets. It produces an airy and full sound, and when driven, it unleashes a magical distortion with those slightly more intense highs that made the originals famous.
The Burstbucker™ Type 1 features a lower output, making it excellent for the neck position. Burstbucker Type 2 has a medium output and is perfect for both positions. Burstbucker Type 3 is over-wound and aggressive, ideal for the bridge position. None of the Burstbuckers are wax potted, and all come with vintage-style braided two-conductor wiring.
