Description:
Metallica fans worldwide will be familiar with Kirk Hammett's iconic 1979 Flying V. This guitar was Kirk's first Gibson, which not only established his passion for the brand's instruments, but for the 'V' guitar shape in general. Its purchase was inspired by famous Flying V players Kirk admired back in the day and his search for a fuller-sounding instrument, which would ultimately go on to help form Metallica's hugely influential and highly-coveted '80s guitar tones.
Kirk still plays his original 1979 Flying V guitar to this day, which he used on all of Metallica's early albums — including Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ... and Justice for All, and the self-titled "Black" Album — making it one of the most important heavy metal guitars of all time.
Only 200 of these instruments have been hand-made by the expert luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee — artfully aged to match the original by the prestigious Murphy Lab division. The included Certificate of Authenticity photo is also signed by Kirk Hammett himself.
