Description:
The 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection and is a faithful reproduction of the renowned SJ-200, crafted in the Gibson Acoustic workshops in Bozeman, Montana, and offered at a decidedly more accessible price.
Introduced in 1937, the SJ-200 quickly earned the title of “King of the Flat-Tops” thanks to its impressive size, powerful sound, and strong stage presence. Originally made with a back and sides of rosewood, it was produced in maple starting in 1947, resulting in the bright tone that made it famous. Loved by movie cowboys, folk singer-songwriters, country crooners, and rock stars alike, the SJ-200 has become a timeless icon, highly sought after by collectors of vintage instruments.
The top is made of artificially aged solid Sitka spruce, paired with solid maple back and sides, and a two-piece maple neck with a "C" profile.
The Indian rosewood fingerboard offers extremely comfortable playability and is visually enhanced by refined "Graduated Crown" inlays.
To meet the needs of modern guitarists, the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC system featuring a piezo under-saddle pickup and an active preamp with volume and tone controls mounted in the soundhole, making it stage and studio ready.
Completing the package are refined aesthetic details, including the Gibson “open book” style headstock with mother-of-pearl logos, the Moustache™ bridge, and a vintage-style decorated pickguard.
