Description:
At the Gibson facilities in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the very first humbuckers, known as Patent Applied For, were wound using imprecise machinery, resulting in the early PAFs being inconsistent in terms of output levels and tone. The Burstbucker™ pickup line represents Gibson's commitment to recreating the magic of those early Patent Applied For humbuckers.
First introduced in the early 1990s, the Gibson Burstbucker (Types 1, 2, and 3) successfully captures the subtle tonal variations of the true classic humbucker sound, featuring traditional unbalanced windings and Alnico 2 magnets. It produces an airy and full sound, and when saturated, it delivers a magical distortion with those slightly more pronounced highs that made the originals famous.
The Burstbucker™ Type 1 features a lower output, making it excellent for the neck position. The Burstbucker Type 2 has a medium output and is perfect for both positions. The Burstbucker Type 3 is overwound and aggressive, ideal for the bridge position. None of the Burstbuckers are wax-potted, and all come equipped with vintage-style two-conductor braided wiring.
