Description:
Give the right instruments to a genius, and you will achieve unprecedented results. This phrase encapsulates what Tom Murphy and the Gibson Custom Shop have managed to create with the new Murphy Lab project.
The new Gibson management has indeed decided to re-engage Tom Murphy directly within the Gibson Custom Shop to develop a new generation of aging techniques that are even more accurate and realistic than in the past: a decisive break from previous manufacturing methods and a sensational leap forward in terms of qualitative results.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, using natural processes rather than manual methods, the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments. The finishes are extremely thin, characterized by a prominent and consistent "crackle," providing an absolutely authentic feel. It truly feels as if one is holding an original vintage instrument, but with all the quality and performance that only the Gibson Custom Shop can offer today.
This 1958 Les Paul Standard, produced in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop as a special order M2M, features a custom finish that evokes one of the most legendary guitars in rock history.
Technically speaking, we are discussing instruments that represent the pinnacle ever achieved by the Gibson Custom Shop in terms of accuracy and quality: they incorporate all the latest technical innovations—such as "period-correct" capacitors and finally "unpotted" Custom Buckers—along with the wealth of experience and quality generated by the recent True Historic series, which has allowed the Gibson Custom Shop's production to make a sensational leap forward.
Lastly, it is important to highlight the presence of Narrow/Tall frets, the same used on the 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue, which feel softer under the fingers when performing bends and are certainly more comfortable for all guitarists accustomed to more modern instruments.
