Description:
Give the right instruments to a genius, and you will achieve unprecedented results. This phrase encapsulates what Tom Murphy and the Gibson Custom Shop have accomplished with the new Murphy Lab project.
The new management at Gibson has decided to re-engage Tom Murphy directly within the Gibson Custom Shop to create a new generation of aging techniques that are even more accurate and realistic than before: a decisive break from previous manufacturing methods and a remarkable leap forward in terms of qualitative results.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, using natural rather than manual processes, the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments. The finishes are incredibly thin, characterized by a noticeable and consistent "crackle," offering an absolutely authentic feel. It truly feels like holding an original vintage instrument, but with all the quality and performance that only the Gibson Custom Shop can provide today.
In particular, this Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Heavy Aged, part of the Gibson Custom Greatest Hits Limited Edition Collection, faithfully reproduces the legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard, the year when the first figured tops were introduced, in a finish inspired by the renowned publication "Beauty of The Burst" and featuring a hand-selected flamed top.
On a technical level, we are discussing instruments that represent the pinnacle ever achieved by the Gibson Custom Shop in terms of accuracy and quality: they incorporate all the latest technical innovations—such as "period-correct" capacitors and finally "unpotted" Custom Buckers—alongside all the experience and quality gained from the recent True Historic series, which has allowed the Gibson Custom Shop's production to make a remarkable leap forward.
