Description:
Give the right instruments to a genius, and you will achieve unprecedented results. This phrase encapsulates what Tom Murphy and the Gibson Custom Shop have accomplished with the new Murphy Lab project.
The new Gibson management has decided to re-involve Tom Murphy directly within the Gibson Custom Shop to create a new generation of aging techniques, even more accurate and realistic than before: a significant departure from previous manufacturing methods and a remarkable leap forward in terms of qualitative results.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, through natural processes rather than manual ones, the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments. The finishes are extremely thin, characterized by a noticeable and consistent "crackle," providing an absolutely authentic feel. It truly feels like holding an original vintage instrument but with all the quality and performance that only the Gibson Custom Shop can offer today.
In particular, this Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Light Aged faithfully reproduces the legendary 1959 Les Paul Standard, the year the first figured tops were introduced. This instrument features a non-catalog finish and a hand-selected top of exceptional quality, as well as a pair of White-finished Custombuckers.
From a technical standpoint, we are discussing instruments that represent the pinnacle ever achieved by the Gibson Custom Shop in terms of accuracy and quality: they incorporate all the technical innovations—such as "period-correct" capacitors and finally "unpotted" Custombuckers—along with the wealth of experience and quality generated by the recent True Historic series, which has allowed the Gibson Custom Shop production to make a remarkable leap forward.
