Description:
In the summer of 1968, Gibson did something new. Responding to high demand, it introduced the first "Reissue" in history: the Les Paul Custom was put back into production, having been discontinued nearly ten years earlier.
However, the 1968 Les Paul Custom was something different. The body was no longer entirely made of mahogany; it featured a maple top, which provided a brighter sound. This model was the precursor to the Les Paul Custom that we still find in the Gibson catalog today.
The 1968 Les Paul Custom celebrates this iconic and historic model by recreating it with meticulous attention to detail.
This version, part of the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection, is characterized by a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish, in addition to a stunning Double Gold finish with gold hardware: we have nicknamed it "Fort Knox"! A truly unique piece.
The Murphy Lab perfectly recreates, through natural rather than manual processes, the same aging conditions of the finish found on original vintage instruments. The thin finishes are marked by a noticeable and substantial "crackle," providing an absolutely authentic feel. It truly feels as if you are holding a vintage original instrument, but with all the quality and performance that only the Gibson Custom Shop can offer today.
