Along with the top, the Adirondack spruce X-bracing is also treated with the VTS technique, while the Guatemalan rosewood back and sides contribute to a rich and balanced sound.

Joe's original 000-45, with serial number 76993, has a fascinating history. A beloved instrument passed down through three generations, it has never left Southern California since being purchased in 1941. Many years later, it came to Joe at a time when its sale helped save a woman's home. The experts at Martin have accurately recreated every detail of this guitar in perfect condition, including the distinctive neck shape, a faithful reproduction of Joe's original pre-war 000-45, but with the addition of an adjustable truss rod to ensure excellent modern playability. The closed gold tuning machines, exclusive to Martin and true to the era, add a touch of vintage charm. Even the “snowflake” inlays on the fingerboard have been crafted to reflect the original model.
