Description:
The PRS "Dead Spec" Silver Sky was made for John Mayer's work with Dead & Company, paying tribute to Jerry Garcia's iconic "Alligator" guitar tones. It's a modified version of Mayer's signature guitar, with notable changes.
This special Silver Sky features a lightweight Swamp Ash body instead of alder, finished in a striking Moc Sand satin nitro that sinks into the wood grain. The bridge, a modified PRS Gen III Tremolo, is screwed to the body, turning it into a string-through hardtail bridge. Adding the tremolo's brass block brings warmth to the guitar's sound. At the opposite end, there's a brass nut and string retainer bar, enhancing resonance and tone.
A significant change is the replacement of the jack plate with a brass-plate Alembic Blaster preamp. This preamp acts as a boost, offering 3 - 14 dB of gain when engaged, giving the Silver Sky extra punch and maintaining clear note separation. It also compensates for cable capacitance on stage. The circuit is bypassed when turned off.
