Description:
The 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection and is a faithful reproduction of the renowned SJ-200 crafted in the Gibson Acoustic workshops in Bozeman, Montana, offered at a significantly more accessible price.
Introduced in 1937, the SJ-200 quickly earned the title of “King of the Flat-Tops” due to its impressive size, powerful sound, and strong stage presence. Originally built with a rosewood back and sides, it was made from maple starting in 1947, which contributed to the bright tone that made it famous. Loved by movie cowboys, folk singer-songwriters, country crooners, and rock stars, the SJ-200 has become a timeless icon, highly sought after by collectors of vintage instruments today.
The top is made from artificially aged solid Sitka spruce, paired with solid maple back and sides, and features a two-piece maple neck with a "C" profile.
The Indian rosewood fingerboard offers extremely comfortable playability and is enhanced visually by the refined "Graduated Crown" inlays.
To meet the needs of modern guitarists, the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is equipped with an L.R. Baggs™ Element Bronze VTC system featuring a saddle-mounted piezo pickup and an active preamp with volume and tone controls mounted in the soundhole, making it stage and studio ready.
Completing the package are refined aesthetic details, including the Gibson "open book" style headstock with mother-of-pearl logos, the Moustache™ bridge, and the vintage-style decorated pickguard.
