Description:
The Gibson Dirty Fingers was introduced to the market in the 1980s but fell into obscurity after being used for a few years on Flying V, Explorer, ES-335S, and other special models. From its very first version, it has been a high-output pickup, designed exclusively for the bridge position. This characteristic stemmed from the higher number of windings compared to a traditional double coil humbucker.
It is recognizable by the Dirty Fingers logo stamped on the lower coil and its 12 adjustable pole pieces, which allow for setting the "response" of the pickup on each individual string (traditional pickups only have 6).
The Gibson Dirty Fingers was revisited by Gibson in 1997 and gained popularity with the public in 2003: Tom Delonge of Blink 182 himself chose this pickup for his Gibson Tom Delonge Signature, explaining that “unlike the original Dirty Finger, which had too high an output and a dull, undesirable tone, the new version is fantastic. It has a much clearer and open tone that, combined with its high output, makes it an aggressive pickup, perfect for genres like metal, hard rock, and nu-metal.” Thus, it is the most aggressive and modern pickup in the Gibson range, with high output and suitable for bridge use.
